Laurent Petit is the acting Senior Vice President for Commercial activities in Africa at SES, the world’s leading provider of satellite services. In that capacity, Laurent leads the sales and marketing efforts of SES on the African continent.

Laurent joined SES in 2005. In addition to his current role Laurent leads the Global Accounts initiatives at SES which includes leading a company-wide strategic/major account planning process. Laurent also leads the Global Occasional Use business group at SES.

Prior to his current role, Laurent worked in various capacities in SES’s Business Development and Finance teams covering mainly Africa and Asia where he contributed to significant new revenue generating activities.

Before joining SES, Laurent worked in the Competition Department’s Merger Network (formerly known as the Merger Task Force) of the European Commission in Brussels where he developed a thorough knowledge of Antitrust and Competition regulations and worked on global transactions in close cooperation with the US Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice.

Prior to the EU, Laurent held several positions as Financial Controller and Financial Advisor in the Financial and Strategy Departments of the Asahi Group (Automotive Glass Industry) and Heidelberger Zement Group (Cement) from 1994 until 1999.

A native of Belgium, Laurent attended the Institut Catholique des Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Brussels (Belgium) where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and International Management in 1994. Laurent also earned a Certified European Financial Analyst Degree from the European Association of Financial Analysts Societies’ Brussels Chapter in 1998. He later earned his MBA degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia (USA).

Laurent is fluent in French, English, Spanish and Dutch.
