SES, a leader in broadcasting across the African continent, was an important figure at Discop Africa, which was held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast from 31 May until 2 June.
Arsene Sol-Loza, SES Africa Marketing Manager, was one of the event’s keynote speakers. He discussed the importance of moving from analogue to digital broadcasting, new SES services – including HDTV, 3DTV and UltraHD (4K) – and how SES’s experience and satellites could help key industry figures reach new, bigger markets.
The event attracted key role-players in the broadcast industry, including international companies offering multiplatform, multiscreen content covering film, series, reality and competition shows, sport, documentaries, and children’s content. They had the opportunity to meet representatives from Africa’s most dynamic content distribution platforms.
Delegates engaged in interesting topics including digital Africa’s challenges and opportunities, content distribution, the opportunities offered by VOD-OTT, African content funding, and French-speaking audio-visual production in Africa. The event also saw the launch of Digital Lab Africa. Organised by the French Institute of South Africa in partnership with Discop Africa and Trace, Digital Lab Africa is an incubator for African multimedia talent.
Digital Lab Africa will feature at the next Discop Africa event, which takes place in Johannesburg, South Africa from 2 to 4 November.
SES will also be at Discop Johannesburg. Keep a look out for more information, as this promises to be a key event on the industry calendar.
