SES is adding another channel to its Ultra HD line up with MTG’s pay-TV operator Viasat – who will launch the world’s first Ultra high definition (HD) sports channel. The channel is set for launch in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland and will launch via SES-5
This means that Viasat’s customers, with its new set top boxes that are to be launched in the respective countries summer season, will experience sport with increased detail and more life-like movement during broadcast. The channel will broadcast a number of premier sporting events, including selected live Championship League matches. The channel will also broadcast other content from MTG’s portfolio that is specially produced in Ultra HD.
With the addition of Viasat’s Ultra HD, SES will effectively broadcast a total of 24 Ultra HD channels – which includes test channels and regional services. This represents 46% of all channels broadcast in this format via satellite globally! SES carries the world’s largest HD line-up with over 2300 HD channels i.e. transmitting 27% of all HD/Ultra HD channels across the world.
“Our history with Viasat spans over 20 years where they have relied on SES’ services to broadcast their 230 stations for more than two decades,” says SES Commercial Vice President, Ibrahima Guimba-Saidou. “Sport has always been predicted as the driver for the next generation viewing experience, and with more ultra HD channels anticipated in the future, satellite will remain the optimal infrastructure to deliver this new improved viewing experience,” concludes Ibrahima.
Ultra HD provides an increased viewing experience through the combination of a high dynamic range, wide colour gamut and high frame rate. Ultra HD provide more colours, increased life-like movement and greater resolution for the viewer – a definite must have not to be missed for sporting events, premium movies and documentaries. http://www.ses.com/ultra-hd
