Connecting municipality’s one satellite at a time – SES takes on Africa Utility Week

Published on: May 17, 2016

Touted as being the only global meeting place, conference and trade expo for the continent’s power and utility professionals – Africa Utility Week is taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 17 to 19 May 2016.

This year will see the 16th edition of this event with last year’s event seeing over 6000 delegates and 1200 attending the conference. “Power throughout Africa remains an expensive resource with little or limited stability. This event is vital to source technology and provide and share knowledge in order to solve infrastructure problems that plague the entire content. To this end SES is committed to being a provider that can help take utilities to the next level, by reaching increased numbers of people and ultimately allowing municipalities to deliver better service,” says Ibrahima Guimba-Saidou, SES VP Commercial Africa.

SES currently has 10 satellites that cover 99% of the continent, this type of coverage is what’s required in order to make sure your utility or company remains connected. With a product suite that includes a combination of geostationary and O3b medium earth satellite networks, reliable communication networks are established. These in turn ensure governments and utilities are able to establish secure communication networks; it also enables organisations to swiftly establish voice and data links when disaster strikes.

The benefits of using SES as partner for governments includes the fact that as an organisation we build, design and deliver flexible and reliable satellite communications solutions to government defence departments, the United Nations (UN), North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and the European Union (EU). Our solutions can be built for occasional use as well as full-time capacity.
